A program on Swachh Bharat Mission under the theme “sanitation awareness campaign through women bodies” was organised by Konyak Nyupuh Sheko Khung (KNSK) at its office premises with MS general and laparoscopic surgeon, Dr.Chinjei Konyak, MBBS, as the resource person. The program was sponsored by PHED Mon division.
Speaking at the occasion, president ENPO Khoiwang Wangsha while lamenting the unclean and unhygienic life style in the district, encouraged the KNSK members to learn and disseminate the importance of sanitation and hygienic life style to their respective neighbors, colony, wards and villages for healthy life style. According to him, women have a wider and important role in creating awareness on the sanitation.
Quoting ‘cleanliness begins with a single person’ women evangelist KBBB, Lemya urged upon the women gathered to begin cleanliness at home and teach their children the importance of such basic yet important things.
Attributing the lack of cleanliness and sanitation to three factors viz, ignorance, uncivilized and negligence, she said KNSK being the women organization was the right platform to create awareness and take practical role on sanitation and hygiene.
Meanwhile speaking on the “importance of good sanitation” , Dr. Chingjei Konyak stated people were conscious and afraid of diseases and ailments but were careless of the sanitation and hygiene.
According to him, 30% of diseases and ailments could be controlled if proper sanitation and hygiene was maintained and emphasized on the importance of proper disposal of waste.
He also informed the gathering of various diseases and ailments caused directly or indirectly due to improper sanitation and unhygienic life style such as diarrhea, dysentery, urinary tract infection, malaria etc.
He also stressed on the importance of washing hands as it reduce the risk of diarrhea by 40%. He also made a special emphasize on clean and proper maintenance of toilet and safe drinking
water.
