A three-days training programme on disaster response for Red Cross volunteers and members of the youth Red Cross was held from July 25 at the Conference Hall, Red Cross Complex, Kohima.
The training programme was organized by Indian Red Cross Society, Nagaland, in collaboration with the National Disaster Response Force, Guwahati and the Home Guards and Civil Defence, Kohima District, Nagaland.
The resource persons for the disaster response training were from the national disaster response force, HQ Guwahati, and the home guards & civil defence, Kohima District, Nagaland.
The training was a hands-on training and covered topics on first aid, emergency rescue and evacuation methods, use of fire extinguishers and other equipments, use of ropes and methods of lashing, etc.
The participants were not only trained on the use of hi-tech power tools but were also able to handle and experience for themselves the use of these equipments.
After the training, Anil Shekhawat, Asst. Commandant, NDRF, who is leading the NDRF team during their visit to Nagaland, gave away certificates to the participants. Vote of thanks was pronounced by Kholie Dolf, Member, Managing Committee, IRCSN.
The Home Guards & Civil Defence team was led by Dally Jamir, District Commandant, HG&CD, Kohima and Matsung, SI, HG&CD, Kohima.
Meanwhile, similar training programme on disaster management and awareness was also conducted at Christ King Higher Secondary by the Nagaland disaster management authority (Home Department) in collaboration with the national disaster response force (NDRF) 1st Bn, Guwahati. Students and teachers were sensitized and trained on basic first aid.
First aid for road accidents and such other disasters were demonstrated by NDRF team. About 300 students attended the training and awareness camp.
