In commemoration of Kohima Village Students’ Union (KVSU) platinum jubilee celebration, RTI seminar cum workshop was jointly organized on Saturday by YouthNet, KVSU and Kohima Village Youth Organization (KVYO) at Kohima village council hall.
KVSU president, Kevisevolie Kevin Solo in his introduction and welcome address said the seminar was organized for students so that they woul dbe aware of the RTI Act and its usage.
Lamenting the prevalence of many unwanted elements like corruption, extortion etc., in the present society, he urged students to fight against corruption and inculcate a sense of transparency.
Kevin Solo emphasizing the consequences of being a ‘mute spectator’ said the situation would worsen, if today’s society failed to eradicate corruption. He appreciated the initiative of YouthNet inorganizing the programmet.
Associate director, YouthNet, Joshua Sheqi while highlighting the activities of YouthNet said it is an NGO that aims to help students in a humble way in choosing the right career.
Joshua while sharing his team’s experience touring the 11 districts of the state, said many youth were found confused with their career and had less knowledge on job opportunities other than government jobs
Based on two-years research and the need of young people, YouthNet published a book called “handbook on career guidance” which would greatly help students, he added.
He advised students to register themselves at the office of Nagaland Job consultant located at Old NST Kohima town so they can get hold of the right information and the right job.
Taking note of many Naga youth excelling in different professions in India and abroad, he encouraged students to do well in their studies, at the same time cautioned them to detest corruption citing examples of the present system of election in the state.
Kuovizo Belho and Rüvuotuonuo Ruth Vizo gave detailed information on RTI, like how to apply, whom to approach, his/her rights and more.
Booklet of RTI guide and YouthNet opportunities express (Nagaland employment weekly) were distributed to all participants.
There was an interaction session on social issues and drafting RTI applications.
Around 10 schools and colleges from Kohima town attended the programme.
