Parliamentary secretary for CAWD, Torechu, on Friday paid a visit to Kiphire district hospital and interacted with the doctors and staff of the hospital.

The doctors of the district hospital briefed the parliamentary secretary on the facilities available in the hospital, number and types of patients and also some of the problems faced by the hospital.

The doctors said due to lack of X-ray machine and ultra sound facility, patients who could have been treated in the hospital itself have to be referred to other hospitals, causing immense hardship especially to patients coming from remote and far-flung villages.

The staff of the hospital also highlighted there was acute water shortage in the hospital, and erratic power supply hampering the smooth functioning of the district hospital.

Some of the nurses said that due to irregular water supply, it was difficult to keep the hospital clean. The doctors also stressed on the need to have a separate transformer for the hospital to ensure smooth supply of electricity.

Further, the doctors and nurses also pointed out the dilapidated condition of the nurses’ quarters and impressed on the need for renovation or construction of new quarters.

Torechu assured the doctors and nurses that he would take up the matter with the departments and look out for an alternate solution to the problems faced by the hospital.

The parliamentary secretary who is the local legislator of the area visited the patients and enquired into their well being and gave financial assistance to the patients.

NPF felicitation prog
Meanwhile, addressing party workers at the felicitation programme of Naga People’s Front (NPF) party at Rest House Colony in Kiphire town, Torechu said politics was not about “deceit, lies and betrayals but about truth and transparency”.
“Most people perceive politics as full of lies and false promises, but real politics should be about truthfulness, trust and commitment”, he said.

Torechu said that a true leader and politician should keep his promises and not mislead the public with “high rhetoric just to get votes”.

He also said a leader should never have “vindictive spirit or coerce the electorate to vote for him”.
Highlighting on the policies and programmes of NPF-led DAN government, especially for the four backward eastern districts of Mon, Tuensang, Kiphire and Longleng, Torechu said right after DAN government came to power in 2003, it created the department of Development of Under-Developed Areas (DUDA) to cater to the developmental needs of the backward districts and created three new districts including Kiphire district besides up-gradation and creation of administrative headquarters and outposts to bring administration to the doorstep of the rural people.

Claiming that the NPF will come back to power after the 2013 assembly election, Torechu alleged that even the Congress high command in Delhi was fed up with the Nagaland state Congress due to “disunity” and “constant tussle for leadership”.
