37 Assam Rifles (AR) conducted two successive operations on July 8 and July 10 and apprehended one alleged “arms peddler” and recovered weapon and ammunition.
According to AR, acting on specific information about presence of suspected armed NSCN (I-M) cadre, AR along with police personnel conducted an operation was Toulazuma Village July 8.
In the operation, one ‘illegal’ .32 pistol with two magazines and six rounds of live ammunition were recovered. However, the suspected cadre was absconding, AR stated. AR informed that through the cadre’s brother it was confirmed that the recovered items belonged to Vete Venhuh son of Neitsolo Venhuh and through the same source, AR revealed that Vete Venhuh was an “active civil wing member and tatar of NSCN (I-M).” The recovered items were handed over to Dimapur East PS, AR added.
In another operation on July 10, AR informed that an alleged arms peddler was intercepted in general area 7th Mile, Chumukedima and further search of the individual led to recovery of one .22 Pistol with magazine and three live rounds of Point 22 ammunition. The intercepted arms peddler was reportedly attempting to sell the recovered weapon. The apprehended individual, identified as Chepetso Krome, r/o Sovima Village, Chumukedima, was handed over to Diphupar PS, AR stated.
