‘NLSA in a mission to reach out to common people’

District and session Judge, Wokha Veprasa Nyekha said that since law has not reached the common people, National Legal Services Authority (NLSA) was in a mission to reach out to all sections of people for which it has set up offices to help people in need of legal advice and are assisted by penal advocates and para legal volunteers.

Addressing a gathering in one-day awareness seminar for police officers under DEF Wokha Wednesday as chief guest, Nyekha said National Legal Services Authority has set up offices like the front office and legal aid clinic in the form of giving free legal service to help people in need of legal advice.

While giving a brief history of legal services authority, the chief guest opined that police officers need to be trained, sensitized and keep themselves updated so that investigation and proceedings were effectively carried out from their end. He also lauded SP, Wokha for initiating and organizing such seminars for the officers.

SP Wokha, Limasunep Jamir, while giving the introductory remarks said the seminar was first of its kind where the entire police machinery was involved to interact with the judiciary and BAR.

SP added that the purpose behind the seminar was to sensitize the officers with other aspects of law as they specifically deals with crime, understand each other’s position better and to make improvement in areas where legal aspect was required.

Topical presentation on CRPC and allied laws prevalent in our society, rights of arrested persons, bail and bond charge sheet and final report, FIR, remand and case diary were presented by penal advocate, Oren Humtsoe, Limathung Ezung, Zuthungbeni Ngullie and Yanbemo Ngullie.

Later interactive session was also held between officers and members of WDLSA. The seminar was jointly organized by Wokha District Legal Services Authority (WDLSA) and DEF Wokha.

The function was chaired by SDPO Wokha, Kenesa. Additional SP, Tokavi Achumi, delivered the welcome speech while vote of thanks was proposed by SDPO Bhandari, Illam Lungalang.
