Nagaland chief minister T.R. Zeliang on Thursday urged upon the VDBs to educate the villagers and to be the bridge to connect them with various government schemes and projects.
Zeliang said this to a delegation of the Nagaland State VDB Association office bearers, led by its president Tohoshe Awomi and general secretary Manthungo Kikon, who called on him at his residential office on Thursday evening, a communiqué issued by the CMO media cell stated.
Since villagers may not be fully aware of the various schemes introduced/implemented by the government, Zeliang said it was the responsibility of the VDB functionaries to make them aware and at the same time, ensure that the schemes are properly implemented.
“Cross check the schemes and plan accordingly so that the villagers are not deprived of developmental activities in any manner,” Zeliang said.
He further expressed happiness that many young and educated persons were now leading the VDB Association. At the same time, Zeliang said he was optimistic that the leaders would update the Government on various developmental activities carried out in the villages.
Zeliang informed the delegation that he had personally taken up with the Centre the issue of the change in pattern of Backward Region Grant Fund, presently being allotted to the districts of Wokha, Longleng, Kiphire, Mon and Tuensang.
Meanwhile, the VBDA members expressed gratitude to the chief minister for releasing the withheld funds to the RD department, adding “it would go a long way in benefiting the villagers”.
