Meanwhile, according to Ghowoto village council (GVC) armed miscreants from Jalukilo village, numbering around 50 attacked Ghowoto village during the wee hours of August 5.
A statement issued by GVC chairman Phuhoto Zhimo said the “mercenaries after looting some cash, molesting some women labourers and beating up male labourers” at gun point torched two farm houses.
The GVC chairman said the village authorities in order not to take law into their hands and to avoid bloodshed reported the matter to the IRB jawans stationed at the village.
On reporting the matter, Zhimo said the jawans responded immediately by arresting one Histon, son of Sepoyi of Chozuba village and Velhuta Chüjo, son of Chekhrolhu Velhuta of Zulhami village after giving a chase.
Citing police seizure memo, the GVC said one 12 bore Sbbl, one muzzle loading gun, 14 numbers of 12 bore cartridge, one crude bomb (handmade), 200 gm of gun powder and one torchlight were seized from their possession.
The GVC chairman claimed that the equipment, numbers, timing and modus operandi of the attack “clearly indicated” that the attack was another failed pre-planned attack of Jalukilo village to “massacre the entire populace of Ghowoto village and its properties like they did to Naga united village.”
The Ghowoto village, in the mean time has placed several demands before the responsible authority.
It has demanded to book the “arrested mercenaries” for robbery, molestation, assault and battering under the relevant section of the National Security Act (NSA).
The Ghowoto village also demanded the authority to thoroughly investigate whether the two arrested and their group was related to “Inavi village massacre” and promptly arrest the remaining mercenaries who managed to escape within 30 days.
The GVC has also urged the authority to penalize Jalukilo village for “repeated unprovoked attack on Ghowoto village and violation of restraining order issued by the district administration by de-reorganization of the village after making them to adequately compensate Ghowoto village for loss and damage of properties caused during the attack.”
Aqahuto area GBs condemn incident
Meanwhile, the Aqahuto Area GBs’ Union has vehemently condemned the incident where miscreants from Jalukielo side destroyed crops and torched huts in the fields belonging to Ghowoto village.
In a release, the Aqahuto Area GBs’ Union president Phushito Ayemi said people of Ghowoto village and surrounding villages have been maintaining utmost restraint, however, it was the people from Jalukielo village who have been constantly creating trouble in Ghowoto village area.
And this time also, the GB union president said miscreants entered into the land of Ghowoto village with intention to cause harm to the villagers and also destroy the property of the people.
Fortunately, Ayemi said before miscreants could cause much damage, the IRB personnel deployed in the area intervened and apprehended two people in the process.
“Firearms and handmade explosives recovered from them is a clear indication of their intention,” he said.
Further, the union has lauded the IRB personnel for their act in protecting the innocent and helpless villagers.
It also appealed to law enforcing agency not to grant bail to the two miscreants who were out to destroy the peace of the people.
