Reacting to decision of the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas (MoPNG) to auction oil wells in Nagaland, the Lotha Lower Oil and Mineral Bearing Zone Association (LLOMBZA) has asserted that land holding rights in Nagaland was unique and therefore should be respected.
LLOMBZA executive meeting, held on September 14 in Dimapur, also expressed serious concern over the issue and stressed that it would not honour any agreement made by the union ministry made with any oil company disregarding the interest of the people.
In a press release, association president C. Elithung Odyuo and general secretary Francis Kikon said while “Nagaland was at the threshold of solving the vexed Naga political movement” such a move to auction oil well by the centre could jeopardize the peace accord.
At the meeting, LLOMBZA also resolved to support state government’s resentment against the union government decision to auction oil wells in Nagaland.
While expressing concern over the long delay in oil exploration, LLOMBZA urged the government and MOGPL for immediate and simultaneous seismic survey and other operational activities that could expedite operation in the zone during the first phase.
“These would materialize the long cherished dreams of the people and bring about development in backward area of Wokha district,” they said.
