Ao Baptist Arogo Mungdang (ABAM) has termed it “absurd, if not totally repugnant and misleading” to “theologize” Heraka movement as Naga religion and to postulate ‘rani’ Gaidinliu as “Naga spiritual leader or the protector of Naga religion”
In a press release, ABAM said when the belief and rituals of Heraka was not known to many people in Nagaland, to state it as traditional Naga religion was deceptive. ABAM pointed out that prior to the advent of Christianity there was no single religion that all the Nagas professed.
It was only after the arrival of Christianity that Nagas embraced a common religion, accepting Jesus Christ as the son of God, ABAM added.
The Mungdang said it strongly condemned the recent development and supported the statement made by NBCC on this issue. While taking strong objection for trying to re-write Naga history through distortions and selfish agenda of various groups, ABAM asked whether “it was an attempt to promote the agenda of the VHP and RSS backed Hindutva or create common divisions among Nagas”.
