Three-day refresher course for Village Councils, GBs, VDBs, and Women leaders under Pungro and Khongsa R.D blocks was conducted by District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) Kiphire from August 11 to 13 at Pungro ADC Headquarter.
The programme was conducted under the aegis of SIRD Nagaland, Kohima. Gracing the occasion as chief guest, additional deputy commissioner (ADC), Pungro, Wennyie spoke on the roles and functions of the village council and the VDBs and the importance of the Village Council Act.
He further stated that any problem or misunderstandings that arise must be amicably solved at the village level and must maintain transparency and accountability.
Wennyie also said that RD department is one of the most active departments under Pungro sub-division and added that the project director and other officers under DRDA Kiphire, as well as the BDOs were approachable and advised the villagers to take advantage of it. Meanwhile, delivering keynote address DRDA project director, Azenuo Pienyü, shared that the department of RD implements state programmes, as well as centrally sponsored schemes for sustainable livelihood and development of the village, thereby she urged people to take maximum advantage for judicious utilization of the fund and bring about changes in the grass root level.
While stressing that villagers must adhere to the prescribed guidelines, she also mentioned the importance of people’s participation in all the stages of village development activities.
Resource persons for the training were DRDA, Kiphire District Porject Officer (DPO) Razukhru D. Vasa, BDO Khongsa Takotemjen, BDO, Pungro Vekhrolo Koza and SIRD, Kiphire TOT Likhumba Y.
Topics on VDB Model Rule, Micro Finance, MGNREGA funding pattern, and Social Audit were covered during the programme.
Altogether 125 village functionaries participated in the programme.
