Nine High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) 2015 examination toppers from Ao community were awarded with 9th N I Jamir Academic Excellence Award, Saturday at Molu Ki, Kohima.
The 9th N I Jamir Academic Excellence Award ceremony was organized under “for the excellent academician” and organised by Ongpangkong Telongjem Kohima.
Speaking at the ceremony as main speaker, inspector general of police (range), Wabang Jamir highlighted the need to restore the values of “our” ancestors and to uphold the cultural and intellectual heritage.
Jamir also said that it was imperative for the Naga society to grow lamenting that the society was not progressing as people do not aim beyond acquiring government job, have lost ancestral values, lack merit and only look for personal gains.
Though Nagas have the intellectual ability to be successful in any field, Jamir lamented that Nagas have become complacent in the belief that government jobs provides “security”.
While pointing out that the greatest intellectual achievement for the Ao community is the “Putu Menden”, Jamir urged the gathering to uphold cultural and intellectual heritage.
He further congratulated the toppers and expressed appreciation to the N. I. Jamir Trust (NIJT). Earlier, Jamir also gave away awards to the toppers.
While explaining the N. I. Jamir Academic Excellence Award, Trustee NIJT, Limameren said that it has been awarded to NBSE HSLC top 20 toppers from Ao community with cash prize of Rs. 10,000 and a certificate.
He then encouraged the students to carry forward the success and vision in order to bring change in the society.
Speaking on behalf of the family of N. I. Jamir, chief secretary (retired) Alemtemshi Jamir IAS said that society would progress if one learn praise and love each other. He said that while striving for excellence, reformative measures should be taken up.
Alemtemshi lamented the deteriorating standard of education in government schools and urged the gathering to improve education standard in Ao region.
Students who were awarded are Loktimen (Satsükba), Imtijungle (Süngratsü), Lanumongba Imchen (Longkhüm), Imlilong Jamir (Chungtia), Bendangkokba R Jamir (Aliba), Akumsenla Jamir (Chuchuyimpang), Bendanglemla Imsong (Longjang), Meyisunep (Chuchuyimlang) and Mongyanger Longkumer (Waromong).
In the programme, the gathering was enthralled by a song performed by 2013 Hornbill Kids Carnival winner, Sentienla Kichu.
