Wozhuro range students union (WRSU) had undertaken a surprise checking tour to all the schools, government offices and departments within its jurisdiction along with its federating units on July 8.
A press release by president Robin Lotha and general secretary Zademo Lotha stated that the tour was undertaken for the welfare of the students community and to curb irregularities of teachers and government employees.
At a joint meeting held at Wozhuro with its federating units and youth organization, resolutions were passed, particularly for putting an end to the practice of “proxy teachers”.
The union has also resolved to take prompt action on failure of responsible authority of the school towards erring teachers.
The union further demanded for immediate ambulance service at the PHC Wozhuro within 30 days. It appealed the employees of various departments to be regular in their duties. WRSU also urged upon the concerned head of department for construction of new office building for veterinary and post office.
The union also observed anomaly with regard to shortage of science teacher at the lone Government High School at Wozhuro, shortage of teachers at government middle school Phiro B for which the union demanded deployment of two teachers at the earliest. Further schools in GPS Totsu, Meriyan and L/Yanthung were found to be functioning without electricity and fans, stated the press release.
The union has appealed to the higher authorities to seriously look into these anomalies at the earliest. It cautioned that failure to do so, the union would be compelled to take its own course of action to protect the rights of the students.
