Cease Fire Supervisory Board (CFSB) chairman Lt Gen (Rtd) N. K. Singh Tuesday said the recently formed NSCN (Reformation) led by Wangtin Naga and P. Tikhak has forwarded a cease fire proposal to him April 13.
In a press release, CFSB chairman said this proposal contained an offer from the NSCN (R) to enter into a fresh cease fire agreement with government of India.
According to Lt. Gen. (Rtd) N.K. Singh, the proposal stated that “after the unilateral abrogation of cease fire by S.S. Khaplang and expulsion of Wangtin Naga and P. Tikhak for attending the CFSB meeting at Chumukedima on March 27, the NSCN (K) split vertically into two on the issue of continuation of cease fire, namely anti-cease fire and pro cease fire groups.”
It further stated that several kilonsers, CCMs, regional authorities, secretaries and army officers have supported Wangtin Naga and have re-affirmed to continue the cease fire with government of India. Singh said Wangtin has accordingly approached him expressing desire for fresh cease fire agreement with government of India in the interests of peace, and to convey the proposal of NSCN (R) to New Delhi.
Singh maintained that the stand of government of India in such cases had been that in principle, any constructive proposals for cease fire could be examined if they lead to facilitating genuine peace and development for the people of Nagaland. He said the proposal was being forwarded to Centre, who would then examine it in the context of the prevailing situation in Nagaland.
Singh disclosed that actions would be taken depending on the response of government of India to the cease fire proposal of NSCN (R).
