Sensitisation on child rights held

A one-day sensitization programme to raise public awareness about the reality of child rights and protection in district under Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS) was organized by District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Wokha, with the support of department of Social Welfare on February 19 at Old Ralan town hall.
In a release, Protection Officer (NIC), Mary Swuro, said ICPS is working to reduce situations and actions that lead to abuse, neglect, exploitation, abandonment and separation of children from their parents.
She mentioned that the target group of ICPS were children in conflict with law, missing and found children, orphaned, abandoned and destitute children, differently abled children, children from families at risk, those engaged in substance abuse, HIV & AIDS infected/affected children, affected by conflict and disaster, street children, working children, trafficked and abused children.
Resource persons in the programme were legal cum Probation Officer, Neinguvotuo Krose, Judicial Magistrate and Chairman Juvenile Justice Board Phuleto Sema and member of Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Wokha Yahamo Patton.
The resource persons exhorted on the importance of child rights and protection. They have also highlighted an incident where three children were apprehended for theft and placed under observation home, Wokha.
It was informed that after proper care and guidance those children excelled in both the moral and academic life and therefore the resource persons urged all the participants to join hands with DCPU and help less privileged children.
About 100 delegates consisting of district administration, police, village council chairman, anganwadi workers, and leaders from church, woman, youth, and students attended the programme.
