PMUY scheme to be launched in W. Bengal on Aug 14

The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) scheme will be launched in West Bengal on  August 14 at Nazrul Mancha, Kolkata. In this regard a press meet was organized at IndianOil Bhawan, Kolkata. The Press conference was addressed by general manager (WBSO), IndianOil Marketing Division i, R K Mohapatra, , and dy. general manager (LPG), WBSO, Kolkata Amles Dutta.
The Launch of PMUY Scheme in West Bengal on the eve of Independence Day would be a moment of pride for all Women in BPL households for getting LPG connection thus giving them a smoke free home, and an identity of their own. Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) was launched by  prime minister Narendra Modi on May 1, 2016 in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh. The main mantra of PMUY during the launch was Swacch Indhan- Behtar Jeevan – Mahilaon ko mila samman. Under this scheme, 5 Cr LPG connections will be provided to eligible BPL households with a support of Rs.1600 per connection in the next 3 years. The OMCs will provide EMI facility for meeting the cost of stove and the first refill. 
The scheme is aimed at replacing the unclean cooking fuels mostly used in the rural India with the clean and more efficient LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas). Ensuring women’s empowerment, especially in rural India, the connections will be issued in the name of women of the BPL households. The identification of eligible BPL families will be made on Social –Economic Caste Census (SECC) data to be provided by MOP&NG. 
To carry the scheme forward and implement it at the grass root level, District Nodal Officers (DNOs) of the Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have been appointed in each and every district across the country. DNOs are the torch bearers for implementation of the PMUY scheme.
The government has already allocated Rs. 2000 crore for the Ujjwala Yojana implementation for the financial year 2016-17. Government will distribute LPG connections to about 1.5 Crore BPL families within the current financial year. A total budgetary allocation of Rs. 8000 Crore has been made by the government for the implementation this scheme over the next three years. The scheme is implemented using the money saved in LPG subsidy through the “Give-it-Up” campaign. The scheme is being implemented by the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas. This is first time in the history that Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas is implementing such an enormous welfare scheme which will benefit Crores of women belonging to the poorest households.
In West Bengal there are around 2.3 crore households and 1.06 crore are target beneficiaries which are to be covered by 2019. To cater to our existing customers we have 933 distributors of OMCs( IOC = 579,  BPC=165  HPC = 189).
To maintain uninterrupted supplies in West Bengal, we have 10 Bottling Plants, which includes plant of IPPL, with a combined capacity of 990TMTPA. All OMCs are expanding the bottling capacity in coming days to cater to the demand for LPG cylinders under the PMUY scheme in the State. 
In line with the dream of Hon’able Prandhan Mantri of creating smoke less villages across the country specially in west Bengal, Already more than 6.5 lac waiting list is available in hand. Sufficient inventory of Cylinders, regulators and allied equipments is available with OMCs plant and distributors.
To carry the scheme forward and implement it on mass level, government has directed to organize special Ujjwala Melas for distributing LPG connections to identified beneficiaries under PMUY at each distributorship between 15th -17th August 2016 in the distinguished presence of local Freedom Fighter / Ex-servicemen / widows of army personnel to mark the 70th Independence Day. The special Ujjwala Melas shall be organised at the LPG showrooms to distribute connections to each and every the beneficiary.
