Thevopisu village council (TVC), Phek Wednesday termed very unfortunate the tension that brought fear psychosis in the minds of the villagers from September 23 to 25 after a group of “unification”, which arrived at the village, was intercepted by security personnel.
In a press statement, TVC chairman Vesathu Dozo and Thevopisu village head GB Vekuri Shijoh pointed out, though there was no gun fight, the standoff exhibited “during the course of time was unbearable.”
Further, stating that the incident caused panic among public, TVC appealed for maintaining peace among various groups and to refrain from “creating senseless and provocative elements” that could lead to disturbing peace.
In view of the volatile situation, TVC said the citizens had an emergency meeting September 25 and resolved to support any peace efforts and pleaded to all sections to strictly adhere to “cease fire” or face consequences.
TVC said they would not hesitate to oppose any group/organization or individuals in the interest of peace. It appealed to the “national workers” and the security forces to maintain cease-fire ground rules both in letter and spirit.
