The canonization of Kuriakose Elias Chavara and Euphrasia would take place in St. Peter’s Square, Rome, at 2:30 p.m. on November 23.
Chavara was born at Kainakary, Alapuzha, in Kerala. He was a great visionary, an ardent spiritual leader, social reformer and a passionate educator with dynamic actions.
Today, he is known as the founder of two religious congregations- Congregation of Mother Immaculate (CMI) and Congregation of Mother of Carmel (CMC).
Euphrasia was born on October 17, 1877, at Kattur in the diocese of Trichur. She lived a saintly life in the congregation of the Mother of Carmel (CMC) founded by Chavara. She personalized the prayer heritage of Carmel and became the first Saint in the CMC.
