‘Clean Wokha Campaign’ in Wokha

Compared to past Republic Day celebrations, this year’s Republic Day was one of the cheeriest, and cleanest, for the citizens of Wokha town.

As part of the 64th republic day celebrations, Wokha town’s Etsuchukha Colony Felowship was awarded a cash prize of Rs.10, 000 by the district administration and Kyong Hoho for being the cleanest colony.
GHSS and Zuvotong Colony Fellowships who were adjudged 1st runners-up was awarded with a cash prize of Rs.7000 each.

The third prize was awarded to Blue Hill, Tchuyiro, Rachan and Chanka Fellowships while Tsumang Colony and MTCC Fellowships were selected for consolation prizes and were also awarded cash prizes. The prizes were given away by SDO (C) Wokha Nokchasashi.

The selection of cleanest colonies was done by a jury including Wokha DC himself.
DC Wokha Vyasan R, who flagged off the campaign, told Nagaland Post that the ‘Clean Wokha Campaign’ was aimed at arousing initiatives among youth towards keeping the town as well as their respective colonies clean.

Vyasan R was also hopeful that even though the campaign had already ended, yet the same spirit would continue with the colonies in Wokha town thriving to keep their respective colonies clean.

At the campaign’s launch programme, more than 200 youth from different colonies gathered at Wokha town’s Police Point carrying placards which read: “Keep Wokha Clean”, “Help Keep Our Town Beautiful”, “Being Green is Staying Clean”, “Cleanliness in Next to Godliness”, etc.

Under the ‘Clean Wokha Campaign’, youth from the different colonies of Wokha town cleaned their neighborhood and repaired roads in their respective colonies.

It may be mentioned that January 2 was the original date for the campaign to end but with enthusiasm and encouragement from all corners, it got extended.

Tales of pathetic conditions of roads inside Wokha town with potholes and dirt galore which have by now assumed legendary proportions with many side plots to the main theme may be slotted for better times after all, if the efforts of some concerned authorities and individuals were to continue.

With that hope in mind, Wokha district administration and Wokha town Baptist church (WTBC) youth department launched ‘Clean Wokha Campaign’ on December 17 last. The campaign was financed by the Kyong Hoho.
