National Youth Day (150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda) was celebrated at Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya Doyang in a grand manner.
Morning procession in the campus of DHEP (Doyang Hydro Electric Plant) commenced the day’s activity. The procession was joined by personnel from CISF, Assam Rifles, residents of Doyang, students, teachers and others.
The concluding programme started with floral offerings to Swami Vivekananda by distinguished guests. Deputy Commissioner, Wokha district, R Vayasan graced the occasion as the chief guest. In his address Vayasan highlighted various aspects of Swamiji’s life and urged the need for a stronger ideal among students.
Joint secretary, VKSPV Su. Reboti Devi was present as guest of honour. Among other prominent personalities was the AC CISF Doyang Unit, A Manna, Captain Vikrant Sewach, Assam Rifles and officials from NEEPCO.
The field activities which grabbed the attention of the public were musical recital (violin), where a group of 50 students put up a concert playing violin together on a musical note, aerobic performance by the students, and malkhamb demonstration by the boys of VI, VII & VIII.
There were other performances like action song by tiny tots of KG, group dance by girls of upper primary section and lastly band display by the school band.
The school has plans to celebrate the year 2013-2014 through purposeful activities commemorating the150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.
