After more than four hours of marathon meeting held in the residence of the chief minister, the ruling NPF has released its list of candidates for the February 23 polls for 57 assembly constituencies.
The 23-member NPF Central Election Committee presided over by urban development minister and NPF president Dr.Shürhozelie Liezietsu and included-chief minister Neiphiu Rio, home minister Imkong L.Imchen, health & family welfare minister Kuzholuzo Neinu, roads and bridges minister Kaito Aye, planning minister T.R.Zeliang and agriculture minister Dr.Chumben Murry.
Former minister of PHE Dr Ngangshi Ao, was denied NPF ticket. Dr Ngangshi wrested the Congress bastion of 25 Mongoya assembly constituency as independent candidate in 2008.
He resigned from the house and as minister and joined NPF in line with assurances of getting the party ticket.
The other former independent who was also denied NPF ticket was Dako Phom, who won the 49 Tamlu assembly constituency in 2008.Dako was parliamentary secretary transport and communication in the NPF-led DAN government.
Three former independents who were given NPF ticket include- Chotisuh Sazo(18 Chozuba),Shetoyi(33 Suruhuto) and C.Kipili Sangtam(59 Seyochung-Sitimi). The fate of the fourth former independent Dr C.K.Nihoshe(35 Zunheboto) was yet to be decided.
A highly placed NPF source said the selection was made on the basis of a candidate’s position and regretted that the two could not be given the party ticket owing to poor chances of winning the 2013 election.
According to NPF sources the party tickets for 4 Ghaspani-I, 27 Mokokchung and 35 Zunheboto will be decided on January 29 ahead of the ticket distribution ceremony at the NPF Central Office, Kohima on January 31.
NCP’s 2nd list
Central election committee of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has released its second list of candidates for the ensuing state assembly elections Monday.
R. L. Yezehekhu Sumi would be contesting on NCP ticket from 3-Dimapur III A/C while Senchumo (NSN Lotha) would be fielded in 37-Tyui A/C. Others on the NCP second list include Mmhonlumo Kikon from 40-Bhandari A/C. T.P. Yaeih from 45-Tehok A/C and Lima Onen Chang from 51-Noksen A/C.
9 Kohima Town
Vikuotuolie Angami, former Engineer-in-chief of NPWD will be announcing his candidature Tuesday for the 9 Kohima Town A/C. Vikuotuolie said he would contest as Independent candidate with “Candle” as the symbol.
2 Dimapur-II
Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) president Savi Liegise who resigned from the post announced his candidature for the 2 Dimapur-II assembly constituency.
The outgoing NCD president was given a warm send off at the NC conference hall Monday by councillors and other organisations. Savi contested the 2008 election for the same seat as NPF candidate and lost to sitting member S.I.Jamir of the Congress.
So far, the three candidates who have announced their candidature for the seat include- S.I.Jamir(INC),Savi Liegise(Ind) and former DMC member Lipok Pongen(NPF).
29 Jangpetkong
Retired commissioner & Secretary for fishery, soil & water conservation, Dr. K. Chuba Ao who will contest for the 29 Jangpetkong seat, began his campaign from his native Warumong village. Dr Chuba spelt out his pledge for complete road connectivity and to improve the existing but deplorable road conditions under Changkikong range from Tuli to Changki village. Dr. K. Chuba Ao will face sitting MLA and former CLP leader I.Imkong besides NPF candidate Dr Longrineken of Khar village. It was also speculated that retired addl. chief secretary E.T Sunep of Changki village was likely to contest for the seat on February 23.
CS meets with DCs, SPs on poll preparations
DIMAPUR, JAN 28 (NPN): A review meeting with deputy commissioners, superintendents of police and officials of key departments was held at Civil Secretariat Conference Hall January 28, under the chairmanship of chief secretary Alemtemshi Jamir to review preparations throughout the state with regard to the forthcoming General Elections slated for 23rd February 2013.
Chief secretary Alemtemshi Jamir urged DCs and SPs to have close coordination between their offices. He reviewed the actions to be taken at district level for poll preparedness.
Various issues pertaining to respective districts were highlighted by DCs and SPs which were discussed and addressed to by the senior officials.
CEO Nagaland, J. Alam expressed his appreciation to DCs for undertaking special summary revision of electoral rolls. He also reminded the DCs that the resources of their respective districts were at their command and may be utilized where possible.
At the meeting Commissioner & Secretary, Transport, Neihu C. Thur, IAS briefed the house about the vehicle requisitioning status. With regard to transport it was decided that a state level committee would be constituted for better co-ordination.
Poll expenditure panel set up for Kma
DIMAPUR, JAN 28 (NPN): Election expenditure monitoring cell (EEMC) has been constituted for Kohima district with deputy secretary, works & housing, Hiazu Meru as the nodal officer.
Election expenditure monitoring control room & call center has also been set up.
Other teams constituted under EEMC include penal list of assistant expenditure observers, video surveillance team, video viewing team, accounting team, flying squads, static surveillance team and the media certification & monitoring team.
Training of the officials/personnel engaged in various teams under EEMC would be held on January 29, 2013 at 11 a.m. at DC’s Conference Hall, Kohima. All responsible have been asked to attend the training programme.
Anoop takes over as DC Phek
Anoop Khinchi IAS joint secretary urban development has been transferred and posted as Deputy Commissioner Phek with immediate effect. He replaces Nikhashe Sema DC Phek who will take over as joint secretary urban development department reports DIPR. The transfer and posting was in line with the recommendation of the Election Commission of India.
