Deputy Commissioner Kiphire, Mohammed Ali Shihab along with SDO (C) Kiphire Longtiba L. Sangtam visited Kiphire District Jail today.
Noting the poor infrastructure in the jail, he asked the jailor to submit a report to Kiphire DPDB. While visiting the inmates of the jail, the DC observed that the conditions of the toilets were poor, without proper water facilities.
Shihab also lamented that the jail lacked a separate female section.
Taking to the inmates of jail, the DC said, “We have only one life and should utilize it for the benefit of ourselves and society”. Expressing concern for the inmates, he requested the Kiphire DLSA panel lawyer to do everything they could to help the inmates.
Chief Judicial Magistrate Kiphire, Kako Konyak, who also chaired a short meeting at the Legal Service Clinic at the District Jail, shared the grievances faced by the District Jail. He also acknowledged the Deputy Commissioner for visiting the District Jail and hearing the cry of the jail department.
It may be mentioned that the District Jail building which was built in the 1980s is in deteriorated condition. Ironically, the Jail built in the 1980s was inaugurated in 2010. Problems like insufficient space for inmates and other infrastructural shortage and shortcomings are beginning to be noticed in the jail.
