NACWR meets NHRA on minors frequenting hotels

July 27, 2014 | by admin

Concerned with cases of girl students including minors skipping classes to spend time in hotels and restautants, Nagaland Alliance for Children and Women Rights (NACWR) held a joint meeting with Nagaland Hotel and Restaurant Association (NHRA) at Nagi Paying Guest House Dimapur Satuday. NACWR president N.K.Kenny said the question raised at the three-hour meeting, was whether hotel and restaurant owners were aware of the menace and suggestion that those running more than 40 hotels in Dimapur need to keep a close watch against allotting rooms to students and minors in uniforms. It was also suggested that both NACWR and NHRA hold another meeting with policy makers and stakeholders to form a body for adopting measures to eradicate the menace. Kenny disclosed that a similar meeting was convened earlier this year, by the Supermarket Tenants’ Union (STU) where the tenants offered constructive response.
NHRA treasurer S.K. Natso disclosed that many hotels in Dimapur indulged in sale of liquor and encouraged immoral activities by supplying call girls. He however said, that such hotels were not members of NHRA and warned that any hotel involved in such business would not be allowed to register as members of the association. He also lauded NACWR for taking the initiative while admitting that NHRA alone would not be able to check such activities unless NGOs and stakeholders also lend their support.
