A four-day vocational training on vermicompost production and vermiculture was conducted by ACTO (Soil Science), KVK Phek, ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Dr. T Esther Longkumer from July 17-20 at KVK Porba.
A press release by KVK Phek stated that during the training, a presentation covering different topics was shown to the participants.
They were also educated about the different types of organic and inorganic fertilizers and its impact on soil, plant and human health.
A film on vermicomposting technology – “A living soil amendment and for bio fertilization, vermiculture practices and its application in different crops” was shown to the participants.
On the last day of the program, the class went on a field visit to vermicomposting units in the KVK farm-low cost HDPE vermibed, heap type and concrete composting pits. Altogether 10 youths attended the program.
