‘Jesuits’ NE region annual meet held in Phesama

Scholastics of the Society of Jesus, popularly known as “Jesuits”, belonging to the Kohima region met at St. Paul’s Institute of Education, Phesama from May 16-20 under the theme “Rebirth”. It was a home-coming for all the scholastics because this is the place where they began their journey as Jesuits.
Reverend Fr. Anand Pereira, SJ, the regional Co-ordinator for formation for north-east jesuit scholastics, warmly and heartily welcomed the scholastics who are studying in Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Jakhama, Kolkata, Pune, Delhi and some of them are working in the various Jesuit Institutions in North-East.
The theme was chosen from the meet as this year the Jesuits all over the world celebrate the Bi-Centenary of the restoration of the society of Jesus. The Jesuits were suppressed in the year 1773 and restored in the year 1814. At the time of suppression, many Jesuits remained true to the charism of the Jesuits and kept the spirit of the Jesuits alive despite the excruciating torture and inhuman treatment by the tormentors.
Today, the Jesuits all over the world remember them with much love and great reverence.
During the five days of their meeting, the Jesuit scholastics had various activities and intensive sessions on the “suppression and restoration” of the Society of Jesus. They also had group building sessions where they came to know and learned from each other and shared their experiences of life.
Fr. Anand Pereira SJ, in his address to all the scholastics, appreciated and encouraged the scholastics for all the good works they are doing and challenged them that they should keep up the Spirit of MAGIS – a Jesuit terminology which means “a restless desire to do more”.
The organizers for this meeting were Sch. Vilezo George Meze SJ, Sch. Gideon Warisa SJ, Sch. Rejin Joseph SJ, Sch. Nobert and Sch. James Vaiphe SJ.
