At least three organizations have decided to stand by the Nagaland Foot Hill Road Construction Committee (NFHRCC) principle with regard to the issues pertaining to the construction of the foothill road.
ASTD: Ao Senso Telongjem Dimapur (ASTD), the apex body of Aos in Dimapur Saturday resolved not to “deviate” from the principle laid down by Nagaland Foot Hill Road Construction Committee (NFHRCC).
This was decided at a meeting convened by ASTD at the residence of its treasurer Yashitsungba Ao on Saturday.
The meeting was attended by representatives from all the ranges of Ao tribe including all the villages, Dimapur Ao Watsu Telongjem (DAWT), Dimapur Ao Lanur Telongjem (DALT) and Ao Students’ Union Dimapur (ASTD).
ASTD president Supu Jamir said that the organization would uphold the the ultimatum served on PWD (R&B) minister on June 18 to respond within seven days. The ultimatum would expire on June 25.
He also informed that the copy of the ultimatum was also forwarded to the chief minister, convener of border MLAs, chairman of Eastern Nagaland Legislators’ Forum (ENLU), chief engineer PWD (R&B) and to all the 10 tribal hohos. Supu said that the ASTD unanimously resolved to “summon” the contractor to whom the work order was awarded in respect of Ao sectors in order to amicably settle the issue.
He also informed all Ao villages in Dimapur to convene a meeting in view of the ultimatum served to the state government within two days – June 22 and 23 in order prepare for any eventualities.
Meanwhile, the committee has convened another emergency meeting on Sunday, 1 p.m. at the residence of its treasurer.
WSH, CUD extend support
WSH: Western Sumi Hoho in its meeting held on Saturday resolved to endorse the stand of NFHRCC on the issue of foothill road. In a statement, WSH president Hokiye Yepthomi and general secretary Viyiho Swu said the meeting was attended by the executives and all the area presidents of the Western Sumi Sectors. WSH said that it had from the beginning supported the “extraordinary project” which was initiated through some tribal organizations and the support of the state government. The hoho appealed all the other civil society organizations and government agencies to extend their cooperation for the successful completion of the project.
CUD: Chang Union, Dimapur has also unanimously resolved to support NFHRCC resolution on the construction of the foothill road. In a press release, CUD general secretary C. Bendang Chang said the decision was taken after CUD held a meeting on Saturday as per the directive issued by NFHRCC.
