Much was expected of the Fact Finding Committee that was set up to probe the facts and circumstances including those behind the mob violence that rocked Dimapur on September 1,2012 but it appears that the report of the FFC turned out to be a damp squib.
The report of the FFC on the September 1,2012 mob violence was discussed by the cabinet at its meeting held sometime in February this year. According to a report, the Cabinet observed, that the report did not contain specific and substance and hence kept it aside.
The point that has been raised is whether the FFC had done its job or that there was a feeling that the matter be treated as a closed chapter.
The cabinet put on record that henceforth, the administration and police are advised to take appropriate action and adequate measures including preventive measures to effectively deal with such situations and also to ensure that such incidents do not recur in future.
Unless the state government ensures that administration and police are allowed to function independently without the usual political interference from various quarters, several public leaders have taken the advise with a pinch of salt.
Dimapur in particular, continues to be travailed by various complex problems and attempting to correct the drift would need a long term strategy and action.
Concerns over the social environment of Dimapur poses a challenge for the state machinery as enforcement of the rule of law has been made difficult.
One of the problems faced by police has been due to shortage of manpower on one hand and presence of parallel authorities.
