Former Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) president and ex-MLA K.V. Pusa’s name has been approved as the Congress Lok Sabha candidate for the polls slated on April 9.
NPCC president S.I. Jamir informed media persons Friday after a closed door meeting, that the party’s Search Committee recommended Pusa’s name for approval by the AICC.
He also disclosed that the NPCC had received applications for Congress ticket from Dr. Roland Lotha, Chubatangit Jamir, P. Longang Konyak and Sulanthung H. Lotha.
It may be mentioned here that the DAN has already selected and declared chief minister Neiphiu Rio as their consensus candidate for the lone Lok Sabha seat.
NPCC president S.I Jamir, CLP leader Tokheho Yepthomi and K.V Pusa would be leaving for New Delhi.
Pusa had resigned as convenor NPCC Search Committee (Lok Sabha) on March 3 and K. Konngam Konyak MLA was appointed as convenor Search Committee.
AICC sources from Delhi confirmed that they had also received information regarding K.V Pusa’s candidature. “The decision (endorsement) of the AICC would be positive”, sources said.
When asked about NPF’s appeal to all parties for a consensus candidate, the NPCC president maintained that the party declined because the appeal came after the NPF announced its candidate.
NPCC president said people were concerned with rampant corruption and mismanagement of the NPF-led DAN government. “NPF will fight with money, but Congress will fight on issues”, he said.
CLP leader and MLA Tokheho Yepthomi claimed that the NPF-led DAN government created history when it failed to provide works programme (for 2013-2014) and gave employees plan holiday, officially or unofficially, commemorating 50 years of statehood.
He also said though the NPF government blamed Congress for non-release of central fund, it did not respond to the centre’s insistence on how Rs.700 crore was spent during 2012-13.
He also said NPF-led DAN government also failed to produce utilization certificates supposed to be submitted by September 2013 and later extended to January 2014.
Tokheho said all these resulted in non enhancement of state budget allocation.
