ICAR New Delhi agriculture extension deputy director general (DDG) Dr. K.D. Kokate has urged the farmers to adopt horticulture-based farming system integrated with fish, duck, poultry and pigs.
DDG visited Dhansiripar (NICRA village) on September 8 to inspect the ongoing activities of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Dimapur district, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre.
During interaction with the farmers, Dr. K.D. Kokate also asked the farmers to take up agriculture in convergence with other line departments to increase their production and productivity levels on a scientific and commercial mode and attain sustainability in food grain production as well as in horticulture and animal sector.
DDG praised the farmers and KVK scientists for taking up CRIDA sponsored National Initiative on Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA) project in Dhansiripar village to cope up and make contingency plans for mitigating the effects of the ever changing climate scenario in the district and the state as a whole. Further, Kokate informed the villagers that NICRA project has now become a brand name in the global scenario.
Also, speaking to the farmers, ICAR Barapani director Dr. S.V. Ngachan asked the farmers to take up secondary and precision agriculture along with post harvest and value addition to the produce so farmers get a premium price at the domestic as well as international market.
Zone-III ZPD Dr. A.K. Gogoi requested the farmers to utilize the maximum benefit of the tools and implements given under custom hiring services and other activities initiated by the KVK in the village and expressed his full support for any kind of help or support from his Directorate.
KVK Dimapur programme coordinator Dr. Anamika Sharma proposed vote of thanks. The visiting team led by DDG visited activity sites with the active participation of nearly 200 farmers from the village.
