Abiogeneis- a rock/fusion band from Nagaland known for inventing a new form of music called Howey and a bamboo instrument called the Bamhum has now invented another new Naga bamboo percussion named “Tikzik”. According to Arenla Subong of Abiogenesis the new Naga bamboo percussion was “born out of circumstances” when NETV approached Abiogenesis to feature in their “Fevikwik Just Music”. Arenla said that the band was told that the shooting would be outdoors in a natural surrounding and that music should be played unplugged. Then the band realised that the drum had to be left out as it being too loud, the other acoustic instruments would be drowned. Whilst the band was wondering what the drummer should do or play, Arenla said Moa got a “brilliant stroke” and came up with the novel innovation of the bamboo percussion naming it “Tikzik”. So now, the “Tikzik” is a new Naga bamboo percussion instrument, a musical instrument that is sounded or played by holding with one hand and being struck onto the finger or palm of the other hand while the fingers can also simultaneously tap single note or beat repeatedly like a roll onto the “Tikzik” stick while the shake sound is also heard. Naga “Tikzik” can be classified as unpitched percussion instrument, which produces notes without an identifiable pitch. The band has decided to unveil “Tikzik” at Mokokchung during Moatsu festival.
