‘NOTHING IS AS GOOD AS YOUR NATURAL TOOTH’ -NOT EVEN GOLD
Constructing dental crowns from gold dates back as far as 4,000 years ago in Southeast Asia.
In Luzon, an island in the Philippines, the earliest traces of gold teeth were found between the fourteenth and fifteenth century. Gold teeth were also discovered when the Spaniards colonized the Philippines in 1571.
The study concludes that gold teeth resulted as a sign of social distinction for chiefs and the political ruling class of Southeast Asia. The appearance of gold teeth symbolizes wealth, power and status. They’re commonly found in the mouths of famous athletes, musicians and Rich people today.
A gold tooth crown provides many positive benefits-
1. Better oral health
If you opt for a gold crown, you can save a lot of your tooth structure. When you go for a crown, your dentist files/ trims your tooth so that it holds your crown. Your dentist can trim your tooth lesser if you get a gold crown. So, you will save more of your natural tooth structure, thus, you have a better oral health.
2. Better overall health
Your body tolerates gold better than the other popular materials used for your dental treatment. So, you won’t have any nerve problems or bleeding gums because of a gold crown. With the other metal crowns, some people experience these problems when their body cannot tolerate their crown well. Most of the people are not allergic to gold.
Gold crowns are especially more useful as you age. With ageing, you may develop allergies and may have reduced immunity. With gold, you have fewer chances of allergy as well as gum infections.
3. Long lasting
Gold crowns are more durable than other crown types. So, they wear out lesser and you can use them for a longer time.
Did you know, your tooth responds to heat and cold by expansion or contraction? So is gold. The good news is expansion and contraction of gold to varying environments is similar to that of your tooth. So, your gold crown does not crack/ chip/ fracture like other crowns. The rate at which gold expands or contracts is like your natural tooth.
On an average, you can use your gold crown for at least 20 to 40 years.
4. Perfect fit
Gold caps or castings fit more accurately on your tooth than the other dental restorations. Porcelain crowns tend to shrink; thus, the fitting of the crown may vary, and you carry the chances of decay around your tooth.
5. Does not harm your other teeth
When you chew food, your teeth in your upper and lower jaws come in contact and work together to chew food. Few crowns tend to wear out your opposing tooth. Gold is safe and does not harm your opposing tooth. This property of gold makes it ideal for bruxism.
Bruxism is a state wherein you grind your teeth excessively, especially at night. It can be so intense that it may wake up the person who is sleeping next to you.
Bruxism damages your teeth as well as your crowns. Gold is an ideal choice here as it neither harms your opposing teeth nor it lets your opposing teeth harm your gold crown.
6. Stays new always
Gold is smooth and does not get stained. Other crowns may have a rough surface which invites bacteria to settle down and stain your crown as well as increase the likelihood of infection.
Tooth restoration technology is more advanced than it has ever been. With state-of- art dental implants and beautiful crown and veneers. we truly are in the twenty-first century of dentistry. In fact, artificial teeth are so durable, attractive, and versatile that some people may even begin to wonder if they’re actually better than actual teeth. At my practice i assists my patients who are in need of restorative dentistry, repairing their smiles with gorgeous results. However, given my experience of over 8 years with restorations, I would tell you that protecting your existing teeth is incredibly important. While prostheses are impressive, nothing beats your real teeth.
Benefits of Keeping Your Smile Real
Your existing teeth are part of a complex system of nerves, tissues, and bones. While these may sometimes have their problems, the ideal oral health solution is typically to maintain as much of your natural tooth structure as possible. “Nothing is as good as your natural tooth” and “saving a natural tooth…should always be the first choice for the best health and cosmetic results.”
The key advantages of keeping your natural teeth rather than replacing them:
• Greater comfort. With restorations like crowns, bridges, or dentures, you may need to undergo surgery, apply foul-tasting adhesive pastes, deal with shifting prostheses, and deal with any other number of hassles associated with artificial teeth.
• More dietary options. By preserving your natural teeth, you maintain “normal biting force, so you can continue to eat your favorite foods.” In contrast, prostheses may not be able to handle certain fruits, vegetables, meats, and snacks.
• Affordability. When you get a crown, bridge, or denture, you will need to account for maintenance costs and potentially plan for a replacement restoration down the road.
• A beautiful look. While restoration materials approximate the appearance of natural teeth as closely as they can, nothing looks quite like real enamel.
These are just a few of the main benefits to maintaining your natural teeth.
Tips for Preserving Your Natural Teeth
Fortunately, saving your existing teeth doesn’t have to be difficult.
My advice is:
• Brush your teeth at least twice per day and floss at least once per day.
• Eat a healthy, balanced diet to maintain your overall well-being and keep your body functioning optimally.
• Go for routine dental checkup’s, These will help us catch oral health issues before they worsen and become more difficult to treat
• Opt for treatments that preserve your teeth rather than going straight for extraction. For example, if you have an infected tooth root, we typically recommend that you undergo root canal therapy rather than removing the tooth right away.
• And finally, Never use your teeth as cutter, plier or a bottle opener.
