Ten-day ‘special handloom expo’ sponsored by office of the development commissioner handlooms, government of India, ministries of textiles, New Delhi, was inaugurated Wednesday by MLA and chairman NHHDC Ltd. Dimapur, Nagaland Namri Nchang at the main market ground Jalukie.
Namri thanked the department and encouraged them to keep up with such events for progressive economy and to promote indigenous handloom and handicrafts not only in the country but worldwide.
He also said that while the state has enough resources, raw materials and potentials, not much importance and encouragement have been given to hone skills and support innovation in this field and assured that NHHDC Ltd.
Dimapur would do its best to “revive” handloom and handicrafts in the state. Namri also expressed optimism that such events, while facilitating uninterrupted workflow would improve price realization of handloom products thus improving the economy of the weaver community.
Host of officers from the department including managing director, Hokiye Yeputhomi, deputy manager S. Meren, general manager, project manager attended the programme. The ‘special handloom expo’ would conclude on September 28.
