With Chakhabama-Zunheboto road in deplorable road condition following abandonment of SARDP-NE project for two-lane road construction by M/s Maytas-Gayatri JV, the commuters from Zunheboto are now taking alternate route to Zunheboto from Kohima via Pughoboto.
SARDP-NE project was initiated to ensure better connectivity and communication to the people.
Effectiveness of maintaining all weather roads remain a big challenge in Nagaland as most of the roads become muddy during rainy season and dust takes over during dry season.
However, people’s long felt desire to have better roads is apparently heading towards the right direction with black topping of existing road from Kasha junction (Tseminyu) to Pughoboto town.
Parliamentary secretary for irrigation and flood control (I&FC), Vikheho Swu, who inspected the road from Kasha via Pughoboto to Ghathashi November 16, said the maintenance of road was being executed under Non Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR). The first phase of black topping from Kasha to Pughoboto is expected to be over by the end of this year.
Parliamentary secretary informed that 22 villages under Pughoboto sub-division and most of the commuters from Zunheboto, parts of Phek, Mokokchung and Tuensang, were also plying on this route, as the road from Kohima via Chozuba to Zunheboto was in bad condition.
He expressed optimism that chief minister, who also happened to ply this route (Kohima via Pughoboto to Zunheboto) to attend ‘Ahuna festival’, witnessed the road conditions and would do something for the people’s long felt desire to have better roads.
