Minister for Art and culture, E.E. Pangteang Monday released five books written by Naga at the Hornbill literature fest at Kisama bamboo heritage.
Releasing the books, Pangteang urged the budding and renowned writers to write for the beauty of present and future of the Nagas. Pointing out that state has produced many writers and authors like, Dr. Temsula Ao, Kaka D Iralu, Monalisa Changkija etc, the minister urged these writers to leave a legacy of the history of Naga for the upcoming generations.
He also expressed gratitude to the writer for their good works and added that literature could promote peace, music, faith and advancement.
The five books released were “Tribal Transformation; Of the Early History of the Naga Hills” edited by Achila Erdica, Tenyidie literature “Traditional and Modern” by Dr. D. Kuolie, “Geography of Nagaland” by Soyunlo Seb, “Straight from a Writers heart” by Vinoholi H. Chophy, “Crime in Nagaland a Sociological investigation” by M. Temjen Longkumer. All the fives authors gave a brief speeches about their books.
Later, the chief guest also gave away the the certificates to the winners. In the poetry “The Art of Living” by Kenilo Kent won the first prize, the second place went to Bendangrela Longkumer poem’s “The bleeding city”, third prize was bagged by “death’s mystery, life’s mystery” by Chenonlo Wagh.
In short stories category, “ grandfather” by Sentilong Ozukum won the first prize followed by “ I am my mother’s daughter” by Neikehenuo Mephuo and “ Into the rabbit hole” by Emisenla Jamir in second and third positions.
The Judges for the short stories were Padmashree Dr. Temsula Ao, Avinuo Kire and Dr.Seyiekhrielie Whiso and the judge for poetry was Agnes Krocha Tepa.
The literature fest was organized by department of Art and culture & tourism Nagaland in collaboration with Kohima Institute’s Hutton lectures.
World War II peace rally: World War II Peace Rally was flagged off by chief executive, Royal Edinburgh Military Tatoo by Brigadier David Allfrey, MBE at Kohima War Cemetery and culminated at WWII Museum, Heritage village, Kisama on December 2.
Altogether 12 WWII Jeeps including a dodge and a motor cycle took part in the peace rally. The cars took a round of Kohima town before heading to Kisama wherein chief minister Neiphiu Rio gave away the prizes for the best original car, best costume and other categories.
The best original car was awarded to car number 11, Kechangulie (Chabuo) Rio while Andrew Ahoto Sema’s car number 5 was awarded the best maintained WWII jeep.
The peace rally was organised by the government of Nagaland and the Nagaland Adventure & Motor Sports Association (NAMSA) to commemorate the battle of Kohima and to spread the message of peace and unity.
Hornbill night carnival: Hornbill Night Carnival-one of the main attractions of the annual Hornbill Festival commenced at various locations of Kohima town beginning on December1.
Tribal indigenous food style preparation, muodi-Angami style of preparing large chunks of meat, roasting meat and fish, snacks, fast food, mascot dress and many other items are made available for food lovers.
Large crowd comprising of tourists, young and old were spotted taking part in the night carnival. The night carnival provides people with opportunity to stroll along the streets of Kohima, while taking in various sights and sounds, besides also giving people the opportunity to sample various kinds of street food.
Hornbill Masterchef: Hornbill Masterchef competition marked the second day of the Hornbill festival at Kisama. It is one of the newly added events that is taking place at the Hornbill festival this year adding colour and fervour to the ten-day long festival of 2013.
Monday, Limala Sangtam was declared the dish of the day (cooking the Sekrenyi food of Angami tribe). Altogether 7 persons mostly the students of The Global Open University hotel management department participated.
On Tuesday the competition will be on Aoling Monyu dish of Konyak tribe on the items like chicken, fish, pork and beef.
The competition will continue till December 8 at Kisama on various dishes like Moatsu (Ao), Naknyulum ( Chang) and Tokhu Emong (Lotha).
The final will be on December 9 where the masterchef of the Hornbill festival will be chosen based on their performances from day-1.
The dishes (Sekrenyi) round prepared by the masterchef contenders Monday were Kigomchubee Heraang – Pork, Ayang imchen – Fish, Liamla sangtam- Chicken, Nzano Tungoe – Beef, Jubitoli ayemi – Beef, Temjen imsong – Pork and Yenrothung – Chicken.
A pantry meant for any interested participant from the public has also been kept ready at the venue. The Hornbill Masterchef competition is jointly organised by Synergy Group enterprise and Niathu administration group which is supported by Nagaland Tourism Department.
Flower arrangement competition: As part of the Hornbill Festival 2013-cum-50 years of Statehood Celebration, the department of Horticulture conducted a ‘One Spot Flower Arrangement’ competition on Monday at Hortiscape, Kisama.
The competition was held under two categories namely of fresh and dry flower arrangement. The lists of prize winning categories are as follows: Flower arrangement (Fresh) – first prize was bagged by K.Alibo Achumi and Senti Longchar and Neikeduonuo walked away with second and third prizes.
Flower Arrangement (Dry) was won by Matia, Pekruvinuo Pienyii and Neikeduonuo as first, second and third respectively. A five year old Neiya Nokton was also participated as a special participant. All the winners were awarded with cash prizes and certificates.
Cultural extravaganza: Cultural extravaganza presentation was also the main attraction on the second day of Hornbill festival at Naga Heritage, Kisama.
The event was held at the North East Cultural day with, Secretary DONER U.K Sangma as the guest of honour.
Cultural music, dance and choreography presented and participated by many North east states were the highlights of the day.
Nineteen different culture of musical wind instrument presented from Manipur, Assam, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Nagaland and Muruma, Pepa, Talu combined prarticipated.
The cultural dances presented by six groups from different North east state were Lhousha or the War dance presented by Manipur of Maring tribe.
Rikampapa popular dance of Nishi community was presented by Arunachal Pradesh, Wangala tribal dance of Garos was presented by Maghalaya, Cheraw a lively and attractive dance performed on festive occasion was presented by Mizoram, Saugrai Mog dance was presented by Tripura and Borodoishika dance of the Boro tribe was presented by Assam.
Day-3 highlights
Hornbill Festival Day-3 would witness flag off ceremony of the Hornbill motor Rally, Hornbill literature festival, Hutton lecturers, Cultural performances by different Naga tribes, Hornbill MasterChef, greased bamboo pole climbing, launching of horticulture department official website and Naga Cultural performances. Performance by Semper Soul USA, a musical- We will rock you and Hornbill Carnival Night.
