
In observance of Global Iodine Deficiency Disorder Prevention Day, a program was held at CHC Jalukie Conference Hall on October 21 Peren District with the theme “ Eliminate Iodine Deficiency Disorders, consume only Iodized salt” with SDO (Civil) Jalukie, Rosietho Ngouri as guest of honor.
Dignitaries from the Medical Department, NGO’s, HCMC chairman and members, Church Leaders, Town committees and community leaders also attended the function.
Chairman of the program dy. CMO, Dr. Tiala, welcomed the participants and expressed gratitude for their encouragement by participating in the program. She also gave a brief note about IDD.
Speaking on the occasion, Ngouri expressed gratitude and acknowledged the medical department for conducting the program at Jalukie and all the participants. He stressed on the point that Iodine Deficiency Disorders was 100% preventable. He highlighted on the importance of Iodine and requested all the representatives present to spread and disseminate the information, act as an agent to the people around, the importance and awareness of Iodine.
Delivering the key note address, CMO Dr. Ngangshimeren, gave a power point presentation on the introduction of Observance of Global IDD Prevention Day; “that it is considered as the world’s single most significant cause of preventable brain damage and mental retardation today.” Importance of Iodine, its sources, daily requirements of Iodine, how Iodine is lost in the soil; Iodine endemic areas in our country, the consequences of Iodine Deficiency, Government’s policy on Iodine. Highlighted on what is Iodized salt? Salt as a medium for iodine: prevention and control IDD’s: storage: (traders), IDD prevalence in Nagaland, challenges in the field of IDD’s, responsibilities of the public, important points to remember were covered in the PPT presentation.
Samlamgwamlie Michui, food safety officer, Peren, demonstrated “Salt Testing on Iodine.”
The program concluded with vote of thanks by SMO CHC Jalukie, Dr. Newmai, followed by light refreshment.
Longleng: Along with the rest of the world, Longleng District Health Society commemorated the Global Iodine Deficiency Disorder Prevention Day on October 21 at Government Primary School, Bhumnyu Village under Longleng District.
Chief Medical Officer Dr Ritu Thurr along with District Programme Manager and Media Officer visited the school. Dr. Ritu Thurr spoke on the awareness of iodine deficiency disorder, and encouraged the students to consume only iodised salt. He presented a power point presentation on Iodine Deficiency Disorder followed by demonstration for testing of iodised salt.
The awareness programme on Iodine Deficiency Disorder was observed at Tamlu PHC, Yongnyah PHC and Yachem PHC under the theme ‘Eliminate Iodine Deficiency Disorder, consume only iodised salt’ with their respective Medical Officer.
Mokokchung: Observation of Global Iodine Deficiency disorder day was held at IDSP Hall, IMDH Mokokchung on October 21.
The programme was aimed to generate awareness on adequate use of Iodine and highlight the consequences of Iodine deficiency. CMO, Dr. S. S. Akaba longchar stressed on the importance of consumption of Iodized salt. Health talk on different Iodine deficiency disorders and demonstration of salt testing for iodine content in common salt was demonstrated by Dy. CMO & District Nodal officer for GIDD Mokokchung Dr. Kibangkumba.
Earlier DCM Watisenla Jamir chaired the programme and delivered vote of thanks. The programme was attended by Principal School of Nursing, Nursing Tutors, and Students from school of nursing of IMDH Mokokchung and DPMU staffs.
Phek: Office of Chief Medical Officer, Phek observed Global Iodine Deficiency Disorder Prevention Day at CMO conference hall, Phek with District Program Officer RCH/UIP, Phek Dr.Kolhitso Khalo as resource person.
Speaking at the program Dr.Kolhitso Khalo highlighted the participants on the importance of Iodine for normal growth and body development. He also briefed on the disorders of iodine deficiency in children and pregnant women.
Meanwhile in commemoration of Global IDD day a school level essay competition was conducted on the topic ‘Importance of Iodine for normal growth’.
The 1st and 2nd prize was bagged by Dzuthovolu Nienu and Vethitolu Khesoh of Christian Mission High School, and 3rd prize by Ngosalu Nienu of Govt.Higher Secondary School respectively. The prizes were given away by District Accounts Manager Martenzuk.
Earlier Iodine Salt testing demonstration was done by District Community Mobilizer, Phek Azenuo Mere and the program was chaired by BPM, Phek Wilfred Kithan.
