Role of the police is to protect public: Kaito

Nagaland home minister G. Kaito Aye Saturday said the primary role of the police was to protect the public and urged police personnel to give their best service to the people.

The state home minister was addressing a gathering during the inauguration of the new Superintendent of Police (SP) office building, Kohima.

Calling on the police personnel to be active and efficient their duties, Kaito also disclosed that a police commission has been set up to look into problems and grievances of those in service.

The home minister also told the police personnel that any time, a team from MHA may visit offices and police stations in the state.

Encouraging the police personnel to take advantage of modern technology, Kaito pointed out that the police personnel should be the first persons to know what was happening in their surroundings.

He urged them to work efficiently using the latest technology and reactivate their activities. The home minister also warned that police personnel should not compromise with their duties and become liabilities to the working system and warned of stern actions against those who ignored their duties.

Kaito also lauded PEP chief engineer Vikedosie Kehie for completing the (SP) office building in time and also the former home minister and former DGP for initiative taken to complete the project.

Nagaland DGP Besesayo Kezo in his address lauded his predecessors for the good work and initiatives taken.

He said the police would be helpless without the cooperation of politicians, administration and the public.

Earlier, the chief guest unveiled the monolith of the new Kohima SP building office.  The programme was chaired by SP Kohima Rothihu Tetseo while dedicatory prayer was led by Vesotsü Rhakho, pastor PUBC Kohima.

NPS addl. SP Kohima M. Rhovisie Nyuwi also acknowledged persons who contributed towards the completion of the project.

PEP chief engineer Vikedosie Kehie in his project report said the building was constructed with Rs. 3.36 crore fund and there were some more works yet to be completed.

Parliamentary secretary Dr. Nicky Kire, MLA Khriehu Liezietsu, former DGP K. Kire, different ranks and files from the police department, APO, NATO, CEO KMC, district administrators and others attended the inaugural programme.
