
Briefing and workshop of Election Expenditure Monitoring (EEM) in connection with the ensuing general election to the Nagaland Parliamentary constituency, 2019 was held at DPDB hall, district planning machinery, DC office compound, Kohima on Wednesday. Representative of recognised political parties and the media persons attended the programme.
Nodal officer, EEM cell, Vineet Kumar briefed the rules and regulations to be followed by a contesting candidates and media during the elections. He also spoke on the maintenance of accounts of election expenditure by the political parties, and said that the ceiling limit of election expenses for a contesting candidate for assembly constituency has been fixed Rs. 20 lakh and Rs. 70 lakh for parliamentary constituency.
He also briefed the media on the coverage during elections citing section 126 of representation of the people Act, 1951, which prohibits displaying any election matter by means, inter alia, of television or similar apparatus, during the period of 48 hours before the hour fixed for conclusion of poll in a constituency. .
Kumar further highlighted the roles on the certification of advertisement and the types of committee for certification and their functions. CEOs and DEOs have been asked to activate their official accounts on various social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter etc for establishing more interactive system.
