
Training programs on the package of practices of maize cultivation was conducted by KVK Peren at Jalukiekam, Phaijol and Jalukie B villages on March 27, April 4 and April 24 respectively. A press release from KVK Peren stated that resource persons of the trainings were Dr. Patu K. Zeliang, Dr. Babita Devi, Dr Moanaro from KVK Peren and Amos Newme from NERLP, Jalukie. During the program, management of nutrients, insects and pests were highlighted along with demonstrations on cultivation practices in farmers’ fields. Farmers were also taught the importance and benefits of maize in poultry and piggery farming. They were encouraged to opt for commercial production so that they may supply their produce to the feed mill in Jalukie. 1.5 qt of hybrid maize varieties VHM 45 and VHM 53 were distributed to the farmers, which has the dual benefits of feed as well as fodder. 104 farmers were benefited by the training programs.
