Social awareness held at GTMS United Colony

One-day social awareness programme was held in the premise of Government Town Middle School (GTMS), United Colony, Dimapur on May 16 in collaboration with MSW students of North East Institute of Social Science and Research (NEISSR). 

A press release from principal NEISSR, Dr Fr C.P. Anto stated that, headmistress of GTMS, Megolhoubino exhorted government schools to take such initiatives for capacity building in making school education relevant to contemporary issues and social realities. She also thanked the MSW trainees for helping the school and also encouraged the trainees to continue helping the government schools.
MSW trainees, Johnny Y. Patton and Chenithung Kikon speaking at the concluding session encouraged the students to come out of their fears and hesitations and to face the real world challenges it holds with courage and determination. The programme was organized by MSW students of NEISSR based on social work principles and practices in school setting. The day was marked with various competitive activities on social and environment issues and social responsibilities of younger generations. Altogether, 39 students participated for the drawing competition, 12 students participated for essay competition and another 10 students participated for the extempore speech competition. 
Prizes sponsored by MSW students of NEISSR were distributed to the top-four students for each event. First four best position holders in the competitions were given out certificates and a set of stationery each. Shimran of class 7 (B) bagged the first prize for the essay writing, Chingtoak of class 6 (A) for the drawing and Tsalila of class 7 (B) for the extempore speech competition. 
The programme was conducted by eight MSW trainees Yantsow Patton, Amongla Jamir, Thungchio Ezung, Avikali, Manden Phom, Chenithung Kikon, Keyiteirai and Johnny Y Patton with active supports from the staff from the school.
