Programme on Sustainable and Ecosystem Management (SLEM) Project, UNDP & government of Nagaland organised by soil and water conservation department culminated on September 28 at Conference Hall, Hotel Japfü.
Guest of honour, programme head, Energy & Environment Unit, UNDP, New Delhi, Preeti Soni evaluated the works carried out through UNDP programme such as land use planning, Jhum resource management committee, formulation of land use policy, livelihood promotional activities which had not only benefited Nagaland state alone but whole of NER towards sustainability. She also mentioned that SLEM project was recognised among 25 best projects under Global Environmental Facility (GEF) – UNDP programme.
In a short speech, chief secretary & chairman PSC, Pankaj Kumar said SLEM project had laid an important foundation for all follow up projects. He also thanked UNDP for all the support and assistance given to the government of Nagaland.
Highlights of SLEM project “sustainable land and ecosystem management in shifting cultivation areas of Nagaland for ecological and livelihood security”, was projected through power point presentation by additional director and HoD, S.N Singh and deputy director, department of soil & water conservation Nagaland, Hetoho Y Swu. Earlier, the programme was chaired by IAS, Principal Secretary & APC, T. Imkonglemba, welcome address by commissioner and secretary department of soil & water conservation, T. Nungsang Ao and vote of thanks by project director department of soil & water conservation, Viliehu Nguzhii. It may be noted that SLEM was launched in 2009 and culminated on July 31, 2017 with the objective of addressing land degradation, livelihood and environmental consideration.
