District Agriculture Officer (DAO) Kiphire, R. Santsu Kithan and his team of field officers conducted one-day farmers training on rodent pests management on September 2017 at Salomi village, Kiphire district.
During the programme, R. Santsu Kithan reminded the farmers that, rodents were the most destructive vertebrate pest, resulting in loss of rice where pest infestation was 5-10% which may go up to 60-70%. He also highlighted on different methods of rodent pest management.
During technical session, AFA, Setsiba Sangtam highlighted on the topic of characteristic behaviour and biology of rodents, while AFA Yankhumong stressed on economically important species of rodents.
Vote of thanks was pronounced by agriculture inspector DAO office Kiphire, Alem Yimchunger, followed by interactive session between the farmers and field officers wherein many field problems were discussed. Altogether, 36 farmers from different villages attended. Rodenticide such as Roban cake and Malathion dust were distributed to the participants to control the rodents.
