Nagaland Governor, PB Acharya, on Wednesday called upon the citizens to become nodal agents of change and also to be the change.
Speaking on the occasion of the 24th Foundation Day celebration of the Nagaland University (NU) at Lumami Headquarters, Acharya, who is also the chief rector of NU, called upon the gathering to introspect and retrospect how far the university has reached.
According to an official bulletin, Acharya said the university was conceived and established with vision by leaders for brighter and greater future.
In this regard, the governor asked whether the vision was on the right track and said if not, then, it was time to change the mindset and go for more research in order to develop and prosper in peace.
Maintaining that the fruit of prosperity should reach everyone equally, the governor reminded the students that knowledge once acquired should be passed on.
He also asked the students to connect with the people as knowledge achievers should also be givers. Acharya also stressed on the government’s Look East Policy and said it was for more development of the north eastern states of the country, adding Nagaland was also one of the beneficiaries.
Earlier, NU vice chancellor, Prof. Pardeshi Lal, delivered welcome address. Short speeches were also given by Nagaland University Teacher’s Association (NUTA), Nagaland University Non-Teaching Association and Post Graduate Students Union [PGSU (L)].
Thought of concern was shared by former deputy chief minister, IK Sema, who also represented the land owners from Lumami village.
Special number was presented by students from department of economics while vote of thanks was proposed by NU registrar.
On September 5, 2017, in honour of the governor, a civic reception was organized by Lumami village- the land doner for the establishment of the University.
In his speech, the governor acknowledged Lumami village for their great donations of land free of cost for the establishment of the University. He said people would always remain grateful in the history of NU.
Later in the evening, an entertainment programme was also organised at IK Hall, organized and presented by the university students.
