A workshop on experience and performance sharing by panel lawyers and para legal volunteers of Zunheboto DLSA) was held on July 17 in the premises of the district court complex Zunheboto.
Atoka Achumi, judicial magistrate first class & secretary of Zunheboto DLSA spoke on the activities being undertaken by the DLSA in the district and the need for active participation by the panel lawyers and PLVs in effectively bringing legal aid services to the doorstep of the public. Panel lawyer Easter H. Yepthomi delivered a short speech on the role and functions of Para Legal Volunteers and on the initiatives of the Zunheboto DLSA in providing legal aid services to impoverished and marginalised sections of the society. Khetoholi Yepthomi, legal cum probation officer, DCPU Zunheboto sensitized the participating PLVs on the salient features of the Juvenile Justice Act 2015.
The programme was chaired by PLV Rebecca Y. Chophy who apprised the participants on record keeping of their respective legal aid centres and maintenance of daily activity registers by the PLVs. Experience and performance sharing by the participating PLVs from the various legal aid clinics and centres was taken up. The PLVs also shared their problems and other queries which was discussed openly and answered by the panel lawyers and resource persons.
A total of 16 para legal volunteers and panel lawyers from the adjoining sub-divisions of Zunheboto attended the workshop. Legal literary booklets and materials were distributed to the participating PLVs for dissemination in their respective legal aid centres. At present, the Zunheboto DLSA is managing 10 village legal care & support centres in the sub-divisions and a Legal Aid Clinic at District Jail Zunheboto. A combined front office in the 1st floor of the district court building at Zunheboto is functional on all working days of the week for any legal aid related queries and legal literacy information.
