A day after the Minister of Environment, Forests & Climate Change, Imkong L Imchen, said that the state government should also be consulted in the ongoing political talks, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) secretary and in-charge of Nagaland, Dr. K Jayakumar, questioned why Imchen had to plead to include the state government when it was the right of the state government to be a participant in any such agreement.
Addressing a press conference at Hotel Saramati here on Tuesday, Dr. Jayakumar questioned the integrity of the Framework Agreement signed between Government of India and NSCN (I-M) and said that Congress wants the contents of the agreement to be made public. He said the Congress party welcomed the agreement, but would support it only after the contents were made known. He maintained that if Congress formed government in the coming assembly election, it would ask for the contents of the Framework Agreement to be made known to the state government.
At the press conference, the AICC secretary also responded to the Nagaland BJP unit’s refutation to his claims over the rise in attacks on religious minorities like killings and burning of Churches in India. BJP unit had asked Dr. Jayakumar “to produce specific proofs of where and when it occurred.” In this regard, AICC secretary listed out 21 instances to justify his clam that BJP has been acting to fulfil their communal agenda.
He said BJP has inserted its hands in a beehive without realising the consequences.
Further, Jayakumar slammed what he described “communal agenda of BJP and its 20 allied organisations” that continued their atrocities on Christians and other minority communities throughout the country.
Stating that minorities were being victimized across the country, AICC secretary said at the hands of BJP backed agencies like RSS, VHP etc minorities were facing oppression.
He said that BJP did not want ‘sabh ka sath, sabh ka vikas’ but instead the development of only Hindutva.
With regard to cow vigilantes and Romeo Squad active in UP and others places, the Congress leader asked what law led to the creation of those gangs of scoundrels that were harassing innocent people. He also questioned the silence of prime minister Modi and asked if he would allow others to form such gangs and harass RSS people?”
AICC secretary said BJP government has been a failure and was taking credit of works done by UPA government.
With regard to the celebration BJP was planning to organise on May 26, he said that BJP was only going to celebrate the failure of the government. He said BJP has failed people everywhere and has been unable to provide jobs or even “Rs 5 in the accounts of the poor against the promise of Rs 15 lakh”.
AICCC secretary also described DAN as the most corrupt government, which he said was even unable to make a proper mud road for the people of the state.
Jayakumar said it was a matter to wonder what the government of Nagaland had done with all the funds it had received during the UPA I and UPA II government. Stating that enough funds were provided to Nagaland government, he asked “what has happened to the justification made once that emergence of BJP-led government at the centre and NPF-led DAN government in Nagaland would pave way for inflow of funds like water from Delhi to Kohima.
Jayakumar said the Congress has great scope as the party has remained intact unlike the NPF, which he said has been split into three groups. He said the split would affect their vote share. AICC secretary said the only thing that Congress was concerned about was the inflow of funds for election that BJP was going to receive like in the case of Manipur, UP and Goa. He however said it depends on Nagas whether they were going to choose money or Jesus.
He said the district committees were quite agile and geared up for the fight but there were some changes that needed to be done. He also made it clear that unlike other parties, Congress that believed in a democratic system would not declare a chief ministerial candidate and the MLAs would choose their leader.
Former chief minister of Arunachal Pradesh and Pradesh Returning Officer (PRO) for Nagaland, Nabam Tuki, also highlighted about the organization election of NPCC and constituted the in-charge of organization election, 2017 committee.
The programme was also attended secretary in-charge of AIMCC for North East India and West Bengal Jarjum Ete and former speaker, ET Ezung.
