CM’s visit to Manipur marks beginning of thaw in relations

Nagaland chief minister, Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu, on his maiden official visit to Manipur on Tuesday, said “peaceful co-existence of different cultures and ethnic groups would bring development in the region.”
Speaking to media persons at Classic Grande, Imphal, Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu said not only Nagaland or Manipur, but the entire North Eastern region needed peace for development to take place. For achieving this, he said Meiteis, being the most advance among the ethnic communities of the region, needed to play the role of big brother. “Time has come for the Meitei to come forward and create friendship with the younger brethren while we expect with a new peaceful and harmonious era. 
The people in the Northeast have different ethnic groups and all shall learn to live together and that was our priority in Nagaland,” he added. Liezietsu said that the purpose of his visit was a “courtesy call” to chief minister N Biren Singh and the people of Manipur.
Accompanied by DAN chairman & advisor (Finance) TR Zeliang, minister in charge of NPF Manipur state unit, Yitachu and NPF central vice president and in charge of NPF MSU, Zaku Tsukhru, Dr. Shürhozelie landed by Chopper at the historic Kangla Fort where his counterpart, N. Biren Singh along with his cabinet colleagues received the Nagaland delegation. 
Thousands of NPF and BJP party functionaries gave a rousing reception to the visiting dignitaries.
According to CMO media cell, in a press note, Dr. Liezietsu said: “We are all aware that there were several crises in our two States, but with the change of guards here at Manipur, people have begun to see a ray of hope and a new dawn of peace is being heralded in between the two States and the different communities in the region.”
He lamented that in the past certain leaders had manipulated and made use of the circumstances for their “own selfish ends” but that with the new dispensation taking over the reins of the state “a new era has dawned and we should all take it as our personal victory.” He also assured that the four NPF MLAs would continue to remain in the alliance till the last.
Later in the day, addressing party functionaries at an informal gathering, DAN chairman and former chief minister T.R. Zeliang said for the first time in decades, Manipur was fortunate to a have a chief minister who was eager to reach out to the hills people. He urged party men and women to extend full cooperation to the good gesture so as to ensure all-round development of the hills districts. “It must be through divine intervention that we have friendly governments and chief ministers in our immediate neighbors Assam and Manipur this time and so we must take full advantage of the situation,” Zeliang said
Manipur’s parliamentary secretary Awangbow Newmai, who is also the NPF president of Manipur Unit said spoke on the occasion.
