Based on specific information regarding presence of an armed cadre, 41 Assam Rifles along with police representative launched a search operation in general area 5th Mile, Dimapur on May 1 and apprehended Inovi Avika Assumi (32) alias Max, ‘finance secretary’ NSCN (K) of Dimapur & Kohima region, resident of Akuluto village, Zunheboto along with one Pt 22 mm pistol with magazine, three live rounds and one blank cash receipt.
According to PRO, HQ IGAR (North) Lt. Col. Amitabh Sharma, on post interrogation, the apprehended member revealed of having served “extortion notice” to various vehicle showrooms in Dimapur, Chumukedima and Kohima and that he was working under, ‘brig’ Akhao Zhimo, finance in charge NSCN (K) Dimapur. The individual along with the recovered arms and items were handed over to Diphupar Police Station, PRO stated.
In a separate operation, Khonsa Battalion of the Assam Rifles under DAO Division carried out a major operation in the early hours of May 5 at Kunsa in south Arunachal Pradesh and apprehended two NSCN (K) members identified as ‘lt’ Wanphai Wangsa and ‘cpl’ Kekho Homku along with 9mm and 7.65 mm pistols and ammunitions.
According to PRO defence Col, C. Konwer, the arrested persons were “terrorizing people and extorting money” from the area and were involved in various “nefarious activities”. PRO also informed that, on interrogation they revealed that they were tasked to carry out extortion and plan sabotage activities against the security forces.
