Sunday storm wrecks havoc across Nagland

Strong winds coupled with heavy rainfall swept across Nagaland on Sunday afternoon leaving behind trails of destruction in several places and caused power outages in most areas.
The strong storm that lasted about 20 minutes, wrecked havoc sending trees and electric poles flying and ripped off roofs in Dimapur and adjoining areas. However, no human casualties were reported.
Several houses including a Government Primary School were reportedly destroyed by the Sunday storm in Yeveto village under Niuland. Power lines were also snapped resulting in power outages in the area.
According to sources in the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), the roof of Longchem EAC office and PHC were blown away and caused extensive damage at Yajang Model and Yajang C village in Mokokchung district.
Preliminary report informed of similar damages caused in Longsemdang and Japukong, Tsurang and others under ADC Mangkolemba. Some villages under Wokha district were also affected by the storm.
While most parts of the State were affected by the strong storm, damages caused by hailstorm were reported from Tuli area. Few window glasses of Molungyimsen Baptist Church were broken by the hailstorm and there were also reports of damaged houses in Lirmen, Longsa and nearby villages.
Travellers from across the State also reported scenes of uprooted trees and bamboos along the highways.
