Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dimapur, Kesonyu Yhome called upon the youths to retrospect on where they had come from and where they visualize themselves in future.
DC said this while speaking as chief guest at the district youth convention, which was held at conference hall, Tourist Lodge Dimapur on Wednesday. Yhome asked the youths to look back at the history of human civilization and study the present situation of where they stand.
Yhome while pointing out that India may have astronauts and cosmonauts working and living in the international zone, he further added that Nagas were still fighting over a plot of land. In this regard, he challenged the youths to overcome narrow mindedness and broaden their potential by not remaining as mere spectators.
He asked the youths to bring about change but not through violent means and said that most revolutions in history had been brought out by youth forces. To achieve the change, Yhome said that youths needed to be passionate about their goals. He did agree that there had been few success stories of few voluntary organizations, but lamented the fact that the spark was still missing and thus encouraged them to broaden their visions in global terms.
On the issue of climate change, Yhome said that this was an area which the youths needed to take up on a serious note. Rather than blame the government of the day, Yhome said that youth needed to also bring about changes in electioneering practices as well.
Mentioning about the need to revive one’s village, he said that more that 80 percent of the population still lived in rural areas. “If we do not revive our village, we will not move forward” and “we need to look beyond” because the problem can be addressed only by the youths.
