Khekaho to focus on equal distribution of sports infrastructure

Parliamentary secretary youth resource and sports Khekaho Assumi has outlined his plans for development of sports by focussing on nine other districts  since sports infrastructures have so far been concentrated mainly in and around Kohima or Dimapur.
Khekaho who had assumed charge of the department of YRS told media persons at a brief meeting here at Hotel Saramati here Monday, after having met with officers of the department, he outlined his priorities for the next ten months of his tenure where  talents  from grass-roots level would be nurtured. While highlighting the various schemes and projects such as Khelo India, Khekaho remarked there was no dearth of talent in Nagaland and underscored the need to nurture them by providing institutional support to deserving candidates.
“We will tap potential talents in all the districts and villages, the grassroot level, and at a young age,” the young legislator stated.
Towards this end, Khekaho informed of the department’s plan to rope in influential and professional foreign coaches in the near future.
He said deserving candidates should avail financial and other opportunities under Grant-in-Aid and capacity building schemes.
When asked about the work progress of State Stadium Dimapur, Khekaho informed he had already met the central authority in this regard.
“Centre will not sanction new projects until existing projects are completed,” he informed adding that utilisation report of the under-construction State Stadium has been submitted to the Centre.
Meanwhile, the department, in association with A1 Powerplay, will be organising “Northeast United FC GRASSROOTS”—a football scouting camp for kids born between 2005-06 – on March 25 and 26 at DDSC Stadium Dimapur.
