Zeliang Peoples’ Organization Nagaland (ZPON) has made an earnest appeal to the people of Nagaland to maintain restrain and to resolve the present impasse through dialogue and negotiation at the earliest.
ZPON president, Kiezen Zeliang in a press note expressed that it was saddened to see that T. R. Zeliang “has been attacked time and again by his political foes for all his policies and political stand without considering any of its pros and cons”. ZPON stated that “there have been several attempts to dethrone T. R. Zeliang from his chair” in the last two and half years and that Zeliangs are made to conclude that “these continuous attempt is because of the fact that he is from a backward tribe which the major tribes still finds it hard to accept”. With regard to the present crisis, the ZPON would like to make “our stand very clear that all issues whatsoever should be settled through negotiation and that all organizations spearheading the demand for removal of CM should shun violence”. ZPON also deeply appreciates the intervention of the NBCC and various churches particularly for praying ceaselessly and taking initiative to resolve the differences through peaceful means without any biasness. It also appealed that government and all tribal organizations sit together and negotiate to restore normalcy in the state. It also expressed sadness at the loss of three precious lives and pray that such unfortunate and irreparable loss does not happen again upon the Nagas. ZPON stated that whole of Zeliang community had always been grateful to the people of Nagaland in general and the members of legislative assembly in particular, for choosing one of its son, T R Zeliang to be the chief minister of Nagaland despite Zeliang being a minor and backward tribe in Nagaland.
